Multiplication in kindergarten to grade 5

Equal groups, arrays and times-tables fluency. Daily Academy tracks it as its own skill, separately from the 9 others in math mountain, so it can never be averaged away by a subject score.

Check it tonight

“Draw me six sevens.” An array or six groups, not a recited chant.

What to watch for

Fluent up to 5× and stalling above it. Facts learned by chanting have no structure to rebuild from.

Real multiplication questions from the library

5 activities currently target this skill. These are actual questions, shown at the difficulty they are served at, with the explanation a child sees after answering.

  • Difficulty 2.8 — mid grade 2

Which is the same as 7 × 4?

    Explanation: Seven 4s and (7 × 3) + 7 both make 28. Knowing a nearby fact helps you find a new one.

  • Difficulty 2.8 — mid grade 2

Match each fact to its answer.

    Explanation: 6 × 3 and 9 × 2 both make 18 — different groups, same total.

  • Difficulty 3.2 — mid grade 3

    7 × 6 = ?

    Hint shown after a miss: 7 × 6 is double 7 × 3 (which is 21).

    Explanation: 7 × 6 = 42.

How do I know if my child has multiplication secure?

Which grade is multiplication taught in?

It appears in both. Daily Academy does not gate skills by year group — a child is placed on a continuous difficulty scale during a five-minute intake, and multiplication is then served at whatever level they are actually at, adjusted separately from every other skill.

A five-minute intake places them on a continuous scale, and the skill map shows every skill separately from the first week. The daily mission is free.
