🏔️ Math Mountain · Application
Length, mass, volume and choosing sensible units. Daily Academy tracks it as its own skill, separately from the 9 others in math mountain, so it can never be averaged away by a subject score.
“Would you measure this room in centimetres or metres? Why?”
Correct measuring with no sense of which unit is sensible. Estimation is the part that transfers.
3 activities currently target this skill. These are actual questions, shown at the difficulty they are served at, with the explanation a child sees after answering.
Difficulty 1.6 — mid grade 1
Which is the best tool for measuring how long your desk is?
Hint shown after a miss: Think about what each tool actually measures.
Explanation: A ruler measures length. A cup measures how much fits inside, a clock measures time, and a scale measures how heavy something is.
Difficulty 1.6 — mid grade 1
A pencil is 12 blocks long. A crayon is 8 blocks long.
How many blocks longer is the pencil than the crayon?
Hint shown after a miss: Line them up at one end and look at the difference.
Explanation: 12 − 8 = 4 blocks. Comparing lengths only works if both things start from the same line — that is the part most often forgotten.
Difficulty 1.6 — mid grade 1
Which of these would you measure in metres rather than centimetres?
Hint shown after a miss: A metre is about as long as a big step.
Explanation: A door. The other three are only a few centimetres, so measuring them in metres would give an answer like 0.03 — true, but useless.
Each one is estimated separately, which is what lets the parent dashboard name a specific gap rather than report a subject average.

It appears in both. Daily Academy does not gate skills by year group — a child is placed on a continuous difficulty scale during a five-minute intake, and measurement is then served at whatever level they are actually at, adjusted separately from every other skill.
A five-minute intake places them on a continuous scale, and the skill map shows every skill separately from the first week. The daily mission is free.
