Sequencing in kindergarten to grade 5

Putting events and steps in an order that makes sense, and saying why. Daily Academy tracks it as its own skill, separately from the 9 others in brain lab, so it can never be averaged away by a subject score.

“What would go wrong if you put your boots on before your socks?”

What to watch for

Ordering a familiar routine perfectly and stalling on an unfamiliar one. That is a remembered habit rather than reasoning about what depends on what.

Real sequencing questions from the library

2 activities currently target this skill. These are actual questions, shown at the difficulty they are served at, with the explanation a child sees after answering.

  • Difficulty 0.4 — mid grade 0

Which do you do FIRST when you eat cereal?

Hint shown after a miss: You cannot eat cereal that is still in the box.

Explanation: Pour it in the bowl. Eating has to come after, because there is nothing to eat until then.

  • Difficulty 0.6 — mid grade 0

    Put these in order.

Hint shown after a miss: You have to have the apple before you can wash it.

Explanation: Pick, wash, eat. Each step needs the one before it to have happened already.

  • Difficulty 0.7 — mid grade 0

Which do you do LAST when you go to bed?

Hint shown after a miss: Which one happens when everything else is already done?

Explanation: Close your eyes. It is the only one that comes after being in bed.

Common questions

How do I know if my child has sequencing secure?

Which grade is sequencing taught in?

It appears in both. Daily Academy does not gate skills by year group — a child is placed on a continuous difficulty scale during a five-minute intake, and sequencing is then served at whatever level they are actually at, adjusted separately from every other skill.

A five-minute intake places them on a continuous scale, and the skill map shows every skill separately from the first week. The daily mission is free.
